Protogate Announces Freeway 3x14 Family

- Three New Freeway Models for 1U to 4U Rackmount Applications, for Installations Requiring from 1 to 88 serial WAN Connections -

SAN DIEGO, California, 14 June, 2015 -- Protogate Corporation announced today the official release of three new Freeway models: the Freeway 3114, the Freeway 3214, and the Freeway 3414. The new products are the latest in the 3000-series Freeway family, and are form, fit, and function compatible with all previous members of that family.

The three new 3x14-series Freeways have PCI and PCIe bus slots, which can accomodate Protogate's PCI or PCIe ICP boards or other interfaces such as Ethernet (copper or fiber), NTDS links, digital I/O lines, etc. The new 3x14-series Freeways will replace the current Freeway 3x12 models, which do not have PCIe slots.

The 3x14-series Freeway servers support the same DLI/TSI or socket-level interfaces as all other Freeway servers, so the 3x14-series servers are functionally identical to all existing Freeways. But the 3x14-series Freeways offer more powerful processing capability, and a greater variety of configuration capabilities, because of the PCIe slots.

"We will continue building and maintaining our older Freeway models as long as there is demand for them," said Protogate President and CEO Jeff Gibbons, "but for new customers, and for new programs, we will use the Freeway 3114, 3214, or 3414. The new Freeways can do everything that the old Freeways can do, but faster -- and they also include new capabiliities that previous Freeways do not have, such as Fiber Ethernet."

Features common to all 3x14-series models:

All of the new 3x14-series Freeway models are encased in black chassis designed to fit into a standard 19-inch rack. All include a multi-core Intel CPU board, two or more 10/100/1000 megabit-per-second ethernet interfaces, a flash disk (or optional rotating magnetic hard disk), a CD/DVD drive, and a complete set of the Freeway server software and client libraries. Connectors for a VGA monitor, a keyboard, a serial console, and two 10BaseT/100/1000BaseTX Ethernet cables are available at the back of each Freeway 3x14-series chassis.

All of the 3x14-series Freeway models also have two or more PCI or PCIe expansion slots, into which can be installed either Intelligent Communications Processor (ICP) boards, additional ethernet interfaces, or other interface boards. Each installed ICP board supports up to 8 EIA-232 WAN serial protocol lines, or up to 4 lines if the electrical interface is EIA-449 (422), EIA-530, or V.35. If installed, the WAN connectors or additional ethernet connectors are also located at the back of the chassis.

A door at the front of each of the new Freeway models swings downward to expose the power-on/off and reset switches and to give access to the removeable disk tray and the CD/DVD drive. Power, hard-disk-activity, and system health LEDS are included on the front panel of all three models.

Features of individual 3x14-series models:

The models in the 3x14-series differ in size and WAN line capacity.

  • The Freeway 3114 is only 1U (1.75 inch) high, and can hold up to two ICP boards (for a total of 8 differential-interface WAN protocol lines, or 16 EIA-232 electrical interface WAN lines).
  • The Freeway 3214 is 2U (3.5 inches) high and holds up to three ICP boards (12 or 24 WAN lines).
  • The Freeway 3414 is 4U (7 inches) high and holds up to eleven ICP boards (44 or 88 WAN lines).

For further information, refer to the technical specifications of the Freeway 3114, Freeway 3214, or Freeway 3414 on Protogate's www.protogate.com website, download the Installation Guide for the Freeway 3114, Freeway 3214, or Freeway 3414, or contact the Protogate sales department via email at sales@protogate.com or via phone at (U.S.) (858) 451-0865.
